Abstract

Maddo Jazre Islam written by Altaf Hussain Hali is an internationally renowned Urdu poem. It is a great example of versified historiography. The subcontinent is an eyewitness to the decline of Muslims. It bore the verse outcomes of colonialism as well. Muslims in such a situation became pessimist and inactive. To get rid of Muslims from such situations, educational, religious, and political institutes became active. Contemporary writers played a vital role in this regard too. Hali is amongst the top writers. Hali has delivered many beautiful poems of such content, but Maddo Jazre Islam has a distinguished position. Its message is universal. Attractive content and mature technicality made this poem able to acquire international fame. It started to be translated into a global language after which it began to be read worldwide. There are four translations of Maddo Jazre Islam and one of the translators is from Europe. The translators of the first two translations are native. The third translation is a collective work of European translators Christopher Shackle and Javed Majeed. The fourth translation is by Syeda Saiyidain Hameed. Every new translation of a literary work should be more accurate than previous ones as the shortcomings of the existing translations are in front of the new translator, based on the mentioned hypothesis the article is restricted to the critical analysis of the fourth translation only.

Is kitaab ki ishaat ka ehtezaam Karachi mein "Peer Muhammad Ibrahim Trust" ki jaanib se kiya gaya. Kitaab ka naam Roman hijon mein Mussaddas-e-Hali likha gaya hai, lekin mutarjim ka naam maloom nahi. Mussaddas ko Urdu se English qaalib mein dhalne ki yeh pehli baqaida koshish hai. Mutarjim ne na sirf Mussaddas ke matn ko English mein tarjuma kiya hai balki Mussaddas mein diye gaye tawaqeefi hawalaat ko bhi English mein muntakil kiya hai aur qariyin ki sahulat ke liye mutabiq zaroorat izafi hawalaat bhi qalamband kiye hain.

Yeh tarjuma "Truth Unveiled" ke naam se Lahore se shaya hua jiska mutarjim Sheikh Abdul Rauf Luther hain. Woh English mein shaayari karte the aur Luther takhallas karte the. Mutarjima kitaab ka aghaaz duaaiya nazm se kiya gaya hai aur ibtedaiya mein qariyin ke liye note ke ilawa Sir Syed ko khraaj-e-tahseen pesh kiya gaya hai. Hali ki mukhtasir sawaneh umri bhi darj hai. Mussaddas ke tarjuma ka baqaida aghaaz iske dibache ke tarjuma se hota hai. Mutarjim ke pesh nazar English qariyin ko Mussaddas Hali mein bayan kiye gaye haalaat o waqiaat se kumahqah waqif karwana hai taake woh bhi Hali ke paigham se aagaahi hasil kar sakain.

Mussaddas ka teesra tarjuma Dr. Christopher Shackle aur Javed Majid ki mushtarka koshish hai. Mussaddas ke pehle aur doosre tarjume mein chhe misraon ka band chhe hi sutoor mein tarjuma kiya gaya hai lekin Mussaddas ka teesra tarjuma nazm nahi, nasr hai. Yeh tarjuma "Hali’s Mussaddas, Flow and Ebb of Islam" ke naam se 1997 mein Oxford University Press, New Delhi se shaya hua. Mutarjim ke pesh nazar Mussaddas ki heyyat ki bajaye iske mafhoom ki kaamil muntakili hai. Shayad yahi wajah hai ke mutarjim ne heyyat ki pabandi rawaa nahi rakhi aur nazm ka nasri tarjuma pesh kiya hai.
